Stone Monument to the Hachikenya Piers

The former Hachikenya Landing Site monument is a stone marker commemorating the historic Hachikenya boat landing. It stands in front of Nagataya Kombu Honten along Tosabori-dori, on the south side of the current landing, about a 3-minute walk from Keihan Temmabashi Station. In the Edo period, it is said that eight boat inns stood here, and Sanjukkoku-bune boats traveled between this area and Fushimi. In the Meiji era, paddle steamers appeared, shortening travel time. With the spread of railways, passenger boat services declined, but the site continued to be active for freight transport until around 1945 (Showa 20). Today, only the stone monument remains, but it retains a certain charm. In spring, cherry blossoms bloom, making it a pleasant place to enjoy hanami. Nearby, “Kawa no Eki Hachikenya” serves as a lively hub with tourist information, Osaka Water Bus services, sightseeing boats, and yakatabune departures.
