Hirakata city is located right in the middle between Osaka and Kyoto. In its eastern region lies Mt. Kunimi, favored by locals as their go-to hiking spot. The mountain stands out in the wide plains between Kyoto and Osaka and its top offers an incredible, panoramic view of both cities and more.

The path to the mountain top offers a variety of different views as it takes you through the residential area and a natural park, along a mountain stream and rows of trees. Not only will you get to enjoy the lush nature, but also the fascinating history as the hike takes you to the former site of a mountain castle. On the way back you could stop at a unique cafe or steak house. Get ready to embark on a refreshing adventure!

The tour starts from the Tsuda Station on the JR Line. After you meet your guide you will walk together toward the mountain. Breaks are incorporated into the course and the pace is rather mild, making this tour perfect even for beginners.

There is a lot to see and enjoy even before you enter the mountain trail. The natural park along the way stands on a wetland area, creating a unique habitat for both flora and fauna that you can observe during your break.

▼Onward to the top!
After you pass through the residential area and reach the start of the mountain trail, it is time to make the climb. As you follow the trail the scenery changes, from bamboo groves and mountain streams to broadleaf forest areas offering many different views along the path.

It takes approximately 40 minutes to reach the summit from the beginning of the mountain trail. Enjoy the relaxing walk in the embrace of mother nature, accompanied by bird songs and various indigenous flora.

The Kunimi Mountain and its surroundings were home to mountain castles during the Warring States period. Immerse yourself in history and learn about the castles, their locations, purposes and constructors as you make your way to the mountain top.

After passing through a grove of trees, a panoramic view overlooking the city unfolds before you! From the top, you can see Kyoto Tower in downtown Kyoto and skyscrapers in Osaka. You may even find a new destination for your journey that you have never visited before!

At the summit, guides will provide hot drinks prepared over a portable burner. The windy summit is unexpectedly cold and a fresh hot beverage is both a blessing and the best companion for a short break and the stunning view. (Cold beverages are available based on the season)

Once you’ve enjoyed the view and the drinks, it is time to start the descent. Just as you might be getting hungry from the hike, you will head to either a cafe or a steak restaurant, based on your choice.

The Tsunagaru Mori cafe & bar is a unique venue that makes you feel as if you wandered into a fairy tale or a fantasy anime. It is attached to a veterinary hospital so that pets can enjoy themselves with their owners. Drinks and meals offered at the cafe are gently flavored and made from natural ingredients so that the pets can eat them too!
