EXPOCITY
EXPOCITY is a large mixed-use complex within Expo Commemoration Park in Senri Banpaku Koen, Suita City, Osaka Prefecture. It opened in November 2015 and covers a site area of about 172,000㎡. The three-story facility consists of eight large entertainment destinations—such as museums, a cinema complex, and edutainment facilities blending education and fun—along with “Mitsui Shopping Park LaLaport EXPOCITY,” which houses a total of 305 shops. The site was originally developed as the amusement zone for Expo ’70 and later became the location of Expo Land, whose former site was reused. Expo Land closed in 2009, after which Mitsui Fudosan redeveloped the area, with operations handled by Mitsui Fudosan Retail Management. Inside LaLaport EXPOCITY are many experiential shops, such as “RHC,” a concept store by Ron Herman that evokes the U.S. West Coast, and “Gundam Square,” a cafe with a Gundam specialty store—one of the first of its kind in western Japan—making it a non-everyday, experience-rich shopping destination for both adults and children.
