Izumi Recycle Environment Park
Izumi Recycling Environment Park is an environmental park in Izumi City, Osaka Prefecture, with free admission and facilities such as a flower farm and sports grounds. Covering about 20,000 tsubo (roughly 66,000㎡), the park was created on reclaimed land where industrial waste was buried for eight years from 1980 to 1988. Construction to convert the site into a park began in 1998, and the park was completed in 2003. The park was built using reused materials; items such as table benches, flowerpots, fences, and stakes are recycled products made by processing plastic bottles. Fertilizer for the flowers was made by processing leftover food and unsold products from supermarkets. The flower farm features seasonal blooms throughout the year—for example: Japanese daffodils in January; weeping plums in February; trumpet daffodils in March; tulips in April; about 80,000 lavender plants in early summer; moss phlox in May; lavender from June to July; and cosmos from October to November. The park also sells natural lavender potpourri made without chemical additives and offers various hands-on experiences.
