Izumisano City
Izumisano City is located in the Sennan region of Osaka Prefecture and is an area rich in nature, with tourist attractions such as Rinku Town, the Izumisano History Museum (featuring exhibits centered on medieval manors), and Marble Beach, famous for sunsets. In ancient times the area was said to have been known as Chinunomiya, an ancient palace. Because its natural environment and stable climate made it easy to obtain food from both mountains and sea, the imperial family is said to have visited frequently. In the medieval period, manors such as Sano-sho, Tsuruhara-sho, and Nagataki-sho were established. In the Edo period, some wealthy farmers began operating coastal shipping businesses. Izumisano is also known as the birthplace of towel manufacturing in Japan; Senshu towels have a tradition of about 130 years and account for 42% of the national market. In recent years, many inbound tourists using Kansai International Airport have brought increased bustle to Izumisano’s sightseeing spots. In 2013, the rural landscape of Ogi in Hine-sho (Hineno-sho) was registered as Osaka’s first Important Cultural Landscape.
