Nishikinohama Beach Park
Nishikinohama Beach is a seaside area in Kaizuka City, Osaka Prefecture, characterized by white sand and pine groves. It extends about 200 meters inland and roughly 1 km along the shore. The pine grove, selected as one of Osaka’s “100 Greenery Selections,” creates a striking contrast with the white sand, and the sunset over Osaka Bay viewed from the grove has been chosen as one of Japan’s “100 Best Sunsets.” In 1945, Hamadera Beach was requisitioned by U.S. forces, so Osaka Prefecture began developing Nishikinohama Park as an alternative beach in cooperation with Nankai Railway, opening it in 1951. After the area suffered severe damage from the Second Muroto Typhoon in September 1961, a second seawall was completed in 1966. From early April to early June, visitors can enjoy clam digging, and from mid-July to late August the area is used as a swimming beach. Because some collected shells are not suitable for eating, clams gathered during clam digging cannot be taken home; instead, they can be exchanged for imported asari clams (up to 800 g for adults and 400 g for children). During the swimming season, young visitors can often be seen enjoying windsurfing and jet skis. The area also has large jungle gyms and playground facilities, making it a fun destination for families and groups.
