Osaka CLUB Hall
Osaka Club Kaikan is a members-only social club building that has been cherished by Osaka’s business and financial leaders since the Taishō era. The current building is what remains after a rebuild in 1924 (Taishō 13) by the Osaka architect Yasutake Takeo, and it is designated both as a Registered Tangible Cultural Property by the national government and as a cultural property by Osaka City. Its brown brick exterior features eye-catching arches reminiscent of Southern European architecture, but on closer inspection you can see a blend of design elements from various regions such as Asia and the Middle East. Today, viewing days are set about every two months, when visitors can tour the interiors and see items such as the interior décor and the club’s art collection. Even just the exterior is worth seeing, so it’s a good place to enjoy the atmosphere of early modernist architecture with an Osaka character. Located in the Nakanoshima business district, it is about a 5-minute walk from Osaka Metro Midosuji Line Yodoyabashi Station, and nearby you can find attractions such as the Gas Building Cafeteria, the former Bank of Japan Osaka Branch building, and Nishiki Bridge.
