Dobuike Street
Donike Street was once known for being “no amateurs allowed.” It is a representative shopping street of Osaka Semba, historically a textile-wholesale district where textile wholesalers lined the street. Today the “no amateurs allowed” signage has disappeared and retail sales to the general public are also offered. It is located near the Semba Center Building, about a 4-minute walk from Honmachi Station. Nowadays, rather than purely textile wholesale, it feels like a diverse shopping street with a range of businesses: an early-childhood classroom that has supported children for 40 years, a real-estate company, an at-home café restaurant, the originator of donburi specialty shops “Ajibei” (famous for tendon and katsudon), okonomiyaki shops, and more. Textile-related shops still remain, including long-established fabric wholesalers (over 60 years), wool-focused apparel cloth wholesalers, shops handling imported and domestic women’s dress fabrics, and shoe/bag specialty wholesale stores. Even just browsing can be enjoyable, and the area also has many nostalgic, retro buildings worth seeing.
