Minase Shrine

Minase Jingu Shrine was established to console the spirits of Emperor Gotoba, Emperor Tsuchimikado, and Emperor Juntoku, who passed away far from the capital. The Minase area was the site of a detached palace that Emperor Gotoba frequented as "my hometown." Emperor Gotoba was exceptionally talented and excelled in both literary and martial arts, and because he was revered by both the imperial court and the warrior class, he is still worshipped today as a deity of learning and sports. In 1347, Ashikaga Tadayoshi (the younger brother of Takauji) performed prayers for his wife’s safe childbirth here, and after she safely gave birth to a boy, it became widely known for safe-delivery prayers; even today, many people apply for such prayers, and the shrine also bestows maternity belly bands. In addition to the guest hall and the Toshin-seki being designated as Important Cultural Properties, visitors can enjoy weeping cherry blossoms and autumn foliage, and in summer an event called "Shofuku no Kaze" is held, during which many wind chimes are displayed along the path leading to the main sanctuary, offering many seasonal highlights throughout the year. Access to Minase Jingu is a 10-minute walk from Minase Station on the Hankyu Kyoto Main Line, a 10-minute walk from Shimamoto Station on the JR Kyoto Line, and a 15-minute walk from Yamazaki Station. If you come by car, there is a free parking lot.
