Right after you leave the Science Museum, a gigantic monument with beautiful curves made of silver stainless pipe catches the eye. In fact this is the entrance gate to the National Museum of Art, Osaka. Designed by Cesar Pelli, one of the chosen "10 Most influential American Architects of Our Time", It is the beginning of the totally underground style museum. The 3-floor underground structure is a rarity in the modern world. Approx. 5,000 pieces of domestic and international paintings, prints, sculpture, photographs from the 20th century and after are in the collection. 50 -100 pieces are always on display, varying in each season. Planned exhibit to introduce artists in action, and special exhibits to show modern art are held 6-7 times a year. Right in front of the National Museum of Modern Art, an old-looking building of white walls with the Tosabori river at its back. It can be found anywhere, but it has the word "graf" on the corner of the wall. "graf" is a creative group of 6 people from different fields; designer, product designer, carpenter, furniture maker, artist, and cook, co-designing the "living space". They handle space produce in various facilities. They moved their base to here in Nakanoshima in 2000, and developed furniture making, a showroom, café, gallery, and bookshop, etc. They are the hottest dispatching spot of design and culture for creators in Osaka. The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka was established by Osaka City in 1982 from the Ataka Collection of 965 items/about 1,000 pieces of oriental ceramics which 21 companies of Sumitomo group donated. After that, many Korean ceramic pieces were donated by Dr.RHEE Byung-Chang. Currently it boasts approx. 2,000 pieces of collection including National Treasure.
