Mozu Hachiman Shrine
Mozu Hachiman Shrine is located within the Mozu Kofun Group, a World Heritage Site, and is a shrine with a long history and tradition, with Emperor Ojin as its chief deity and Emperor Nintoku and three other deities enshrined within its grounds.
It is said that the shrine was founded in this location in the mid-6th century during the reign of Emperor Kinmei, following a divine revelation from the Hachiman deity, to pray for peace in the nation.
The grounds are approximately 30,000 square meters and include many designated preserved trees. One of these is the giant camphor tree in front of the main hall, which has a trunk circumference of 5.2 meters, a height of 25 meters, and is approximately 800 years old. It has been designated a prefectural natural monument and its branches and leaves spread out in all directions, captivating all who see it.
