Basic information
■About Alphonse Mucha
Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939) was a leading artist of Art Nouveau, which flourished at the end of the 19th century. During the late 19th century, known as the "Golden Age of Posters," Mucha's "Musha style," characterized by his depictions of graceful women surrounded by flowers, supple curves, and pale colors, was praised by many as the "flower of Art Nouveau," making him one of the most popular poster artists. Unsatisfied with his success in Paris, Mucha continued to search for his own path, determined to contribute to his native Czech Republic and the Slavic people through art, and moved his base of operations to the Czech Republic, where he produced numerous works imbued with profound messages of love for humanity and country.
The Sakai Alphonse Mucha Museum offers special exhibitions that trace Mucha's creative career throughout his life from a variety of angles, making them easy to understand even for first-time visitors and enjoyable to view.
