Osaka City Central Public Hall
A retro building that has stood in Nakanoshima for over 100 years
The Neo-Renaissance style architecture, designed by architectural masters such as Tatsuno Kingo and Kataoka Yasushi, is a sight to behold.
Basic information
Osaka City Central Public Hall was built with a donation from an Osaka citizen, Mr. Einosuke Iwamoto. Since its opening in 1918, it has played a deep role in the development of Osaka's culture and arts, hosting operas and concerts by leading international artists as well as numerous lectures by prominent figures from various fields. In December 2002, the hall was designated an Important Cultural Property of Japan in recognition of its exceptional importance as a historical building, with its beautiful exterior and interior design being an essential part of the Nakanoshima landscape. Despite being an Important Cultural Property, it is an extremely rare building that is available for public rental, and is still used by many people today.
