Basic information
The Fujita Museum of Art opened in 1954 as an art museum that preserves and exhibits one of the world's leading collections of Japanese and Oriental art, built by Fujita Denzaburo, a businessman active in the Meiji period, and his sons. The museum's collection includes nine national treasures and 53 important cultural properties. It is scheduled to reopen in April 2022.
The National Treasure "Yohen Tenmoku Tea Bowl" was made in the Southern Song Dynasty in China, and is a national treasure of which only three remain in the world. The lapis lazuli-colored Yohen pattern shines beautifully like stars floating in space, boasting an elegant splendor. It was passed down to the present day through the Mito Tokugawa family, which inherited it from Tokugawa Ieyasu, and the Fujita family.
