Shitennoji Spring Treasure Exhibition
The stone torii plaque, Yakushi Nyorai statue, and Amida Nyorai statue, which are all important cultural properties on display in the Treasure Museum, will be on display during the Spring Treasure Exhibition.
Basic information
It was the first official temple of Buddhism in Japan, built by Prince Shotoku in the first year of the Emperor Suiko (593), and has survived numerous disasters and war damage, and has survived to the present day. The temple has the oldest temple structure in Japan in the Shitennoji style, and is a temple that transcends the boundaries of religious sects, with halls dedicated to various religious patriarchs, including Saicho, Kobo Daishi, Kukai, Honen Shonin, and Shinran Shonin. The Daishikai on the 21st and Taishikai on the 22nd of every month are the temple's open-air days (Shitennoji), and many stalls are lined up, maintaining the temple's stance as a temple of the Taishikai faith of the common people.
The Treasure House contains an Important Cultural Property (former National Treasure), a flattened stone torii gate, a wooden seated statue of Yakushi Nyorai, and a wooden seated statue of Amida Nyorai, which can be viewed during the period of the exhibition of great treasures.
