    It is said that the temple was founded in the Heian period with a stone Buddha carved by Kukai as its principal image. It was founded in the Edo period by a local monk named Jogon. Jogon was a figure who was so devoted that he was worshipped by the 5th Shogun, Tokugawa Tsunayoshi, and other feudal lords. The temple grounds are home to the "Yubae Maple," a tree said to be 800 years old, whose autumn foliage is spectacular. It is a cultural asset that constitutes the Japan Heritage "Town Where You Can Encounter the Middle Ages," and is home to the Seiryoji-style Shaka Nyorai (Important Cultural Property) and a treasure house built in 1927 that is registered as a national tangible cultural property.

    Kawachinagano City has an area of 10,963 hectares, of which approximately 70%, or 7,311 hectares, is forest. This forest has long been known as the "Kawachi Forestry Region." Many cedar and cypress plantations, branded as "Osaka Kawachi Wood," are located here, providing a place for environmental conservation and relaxation as a valuable "forest resource." Based on this background, Kinekan was established as a base for learning and interaction, with the aim of organizing foresters and providing instruction aimed at improving their skills, as well as offering woodworking craft experiences and events themed around forests and nature, based on the protection and cultivation of local forest resources and the revitalization of forestry.
