Domyoji Tenmangu Shrine
Domyoji Tenmangu Shrine, located in Fujiidera City, enshrines Sugawara no Michizane, Amenohihonomikoto, and Kakujunii (an aunt of Michizane). It is also famous as the origin site connected to Domyoji products—ingredients used for Kansai-style sakura mochi (Domyoji mochi), such as “Domyoji hoshii” and “Domyoji flour.” With a history of over 1,400 years, it is widely worshiped as a shrine of learning. Its treasure hall houses many valuable cultural assets, including National Treasure items traditionally said to have been used by Michizane (Den Kan Kō I-hin). The principal object, a National Treasure Eleven-Headed Kannon standing statue, can be viewed on the 18th and 25th of each month. The shrine is also a famous plum-blossom spot: about 900 plum trees of 90 varieties bloom beautifully, and it is selected as one of the “Osaka Green 100 Selections.” A rare “Jōnari-ume” near the worship hall is known for bearing fruit year-round. Access is excellent: about a 3-minute walk from Domyoji Station (Kintetsu Minami-Osaka Line). By car, it’s about 5 minutes from the Nishi-Meihan Expressway Fujiidera IC, with parking for around 50 vehicles.
