Suisho Bridge
Suisho Bridge is a bridge over the Dojima River. It was completed in 1929, but at the time it was actually a movable weir on the Dojima River designed to improve water quality, so strictly speaking it was not a bridge. However, during repair work in 1982, it was renovated at the same time with the goal of making it more usable for more people, and it became a beautiful bridge worthy of the name "Suisho Bridge." There are several theories about the name’s origin, such as "because the bridge lights reflected on the water look like the sparkle of crystal" and "in hopes of prosperity for Osaka, the City of Water." With a distinctive design combining a small arch atop a large arch close to the water’s surface, it is loved by the people of Osaka. During the day, many people can be seen sketching it, and the nighttime illumination is also well worth seeing. Nearby are major modern architectural landmarks of Osaka, such as Osaka City Central Public Hall and the Nakanoshima Prefectural Library, so it is also recommended to take a leisurely break on the benches on the bridge during a stroll.
