Kigawa Theater

Kikawa Theater is a popular theater in Yodogawa Ward, Osaka, located about a 10-minute walk from Hankyu Juso Station. Formerly known as Kikawa Music, a strip theater, it reopened in April 2014 as a traditional popular theater. Popular theater performances feature historical dramas such as Chushingura and Kunisada Chuji, followed by singing and dance shows. The surrounding area has historically suffered frequent flooding from the Yodo River, but major river improvement works carried out between 1896 and 1909 greatly reduced flood damage. The name "Juso" comes from the fact that the area was the 13th ferry crossing upstream on the Yodo River during the Edo period.

  • Kikawa Theater, where you can feel a retro Showa-era atmosphere, is located in a corner of the Kikawa Honmachi Shopping Street. It’s about a 10-minute walk from Juso Station, and since it can be a bit hard to find, it’s recommended to bring a map. The shopping street also has retro cafés and eateries, and just walking around lets you soak in the Showa vibe. After watching popular theater performances, you can also walk toward the Yodo River and enjoy the view of Juso Bridge from Yodogawa Riverside Park.
