Osaka International Peace Center

Peace Osaka (Osaka International Peace Center) is a peace museum established in 1991 in the Osaka Castle area to preserve and convey the history of the Osaka air raids. The museum conducts research and presents exhibitions on war and peace, aiming to pass on the tragedy of war and the value of peace to future generations. Exhibits include photographs taken immediately after the air raids, furniture used at the time, and materials related to postwar global affairs. On the first floor, visitors can learn about the “15-Year War” (including the Pacific War) through displays such as models of one-ton bombs and incendiary bombs dropped on Osaka. The second floor focuses on “The Osaka Air Raids and People’s Lives,” and the third floor explores “The Pursuit of Peace.” The museum also holds approximately 30,000 books on war and peace and hosts special exhibitions. Its auditorium, which can accommodate 300 people, is used for film screenings, lectures, concerts, and kamishibai (paper-theater) performances. There are also video booths for viewing videos and DVDs.
