Cherry Blossom Passage at the Mint Bureau

Provided by: Japan Mint, Independent Administrative Agency
Basic information
The "Cherry Blossom Passage," a quintessential spring event in Osaka, opens a 560-meter-long pathway along the former Yodo River within the Japan Mint grounds to the public for one week for cherry blossom viewing. This year, there are 331 cherry trees of 140 varieties.
To encourage people to appreciate the cherry blossoms along the cherry tree-lined path, the Japan Mint selects one variety from its many cultivars each year as "This Year's Flower" and introduces it to the public. This year, they have chosen "Gyoiko."
Also, this year we will be introducing a new variety called "Fukuzakura" (meaning "lucky cherry blossom").
