"Risa Gohan Osaka Edition" Introducing Hannan City and Izumi City
Osaka may have an image of being an urban city, but there are also many fertile areas within the prefecture that cultivate delicious ingredients. We will introduce the charms of Hannan City and Izumi City, which were introduced by Risa Aizawa, also known as Risachi of Dempagumi.inc, who serves as the support team leader for the "Pop Culture Osaka Project," in her episode of "Risa Channel Osaka Edition: Cook, Eat, and Support!"
Hannan City
Hannan City is located in the southern part of Osaka Prefecture, facing Osaka Bay to the north and bordering the Izumi Mountains to the south. The city is blessed with a natural environment of calm seas and lush forests. The city is full of local industries, including fishing, agriculture, and local sake brewing, as well as a fascinating food scene. In winter, an oyster hut directly operated by the fishing cooperative is also open.
Water eggplants from Yasuda Farm
Silken eggplant, a type of water eggplant lovingly cultivated by the owner in Hakonoura, Hannan City, is very popular among locals when lightly pickled. It is sold at the direct sales store only in the mornings during the season.

Izumi City
Izumi City is a city with a long history, home to one of the largest Yayoi period settlement sites in Japan (the Ikegami Sone Ruins). While it's close to Osaka City and an urban area with large commercial facilities, it also retains its traditional rural landscape. There are also plenty of markets where you can purchase seasonal vegetables and fruits, and restaurants that use vegetables from local farmers.
Strawberries: Izumi Ogawa Strawberry Farm (Izumi Fureai Nono Sato)
This is one of the largest strawberry picking farms in the Kansai region, and in addition to strawberries, you can also enjoy seasonal activities such as corn and blueberry picking in the summer, sweet potato digging and chestnut gathering in the fall, BBQs, local cooking classes, and glamping (scheduled to open in summer 2020). On clear days, the farm offers a magnificent view of Osaka Bay, and goats, popular with children, welcome visitors. Come with your family or friends.

European Reef Green Groove
European leaf lettuce is still rare in Japan. Grown using a unique method in the mountainous region of Izumi City, where temperatures fluctuate greatly, these leaves offer a rich flavor that fully captures the unique characteristics of each variety. They are satisfying to eat, have a thick leaf flesh that looks great when presented, and have a long shelf life, making them popular with many professional chefs. You can easily create beautiful, restaurant-quality salads at home!
Cherry Tomatoes, Kinoshita Farm
Osaka's first brand of cherry tomatoes, "Amamade," has a sugar content of over 8. Its exquisite balance of sweet and sour taste makes it taste like eating fruit! It's popular. You can also experience cherry tomato picking on weekends.

The spirit of eliminationOsaka cuisine is known as "Shimatsu cuisine." Shimatsu means beginning and end. In other words, it means things add up, the accounts balance out, and the calculations are done in a logical order.

A city of gourmet delightsThere is an old saying that goes, "Kyoto is a place where people spend all their money on clothing, and Osaka is a place where people spend all their money on eating and drinking." This means that people in Kyoto spend all their money on kimonos, and in Osaka on eating and drinking, and end up losing all their money.

Sakai's food cultureKitchen knives are an essential part of cooking. Sakai was known as the birthplace of everything, and the manufacture of guns and textiles was also one of the earliest places to start in the city. However, the development of Sakai cutlery began in the Toyotomi period and the early Tokugawa period.
