Kansai International Airport

Built off the coast of Senshu in Osaka Bay, Kansai Airport is the world's first offshore airport constructed on a completely man-made island. It handles roughly 28 million travelers per year.

The Kansai International Airport opened in September 1994 as the world’s first “fully artificial island offshore airport” that was built in the middle of Osaka Bay off the Senshu shore. A world-class airport with multiple 4,000 meter-class runways that operate 24 hours a day. Connected to 91 cities in 25 countries, the number of international scheduled flights average at about 221.9 flights per day. The Terminal 1 building where about 28 million travelers come and go annually, is comprised of a 4-story main building and its north-south wing extension. The 2nd floor is for departing domestic flights, the 4th floor for departing international flights, and the 1st floor being reserved for arrivals of both domestic and international flights. The airport is easily accessible by ground transportation, as it is directly connected to a train station on the 2nd floor, while buses bound for the aipport are on the 4th floor and buses departing from the airport are on the 1st floor. The Terminal 2 building opened in October 2012 specifically for LCC (low cost carriers) had further expansions in January 2017. The building is also well-functioning and complete with Japan’s first smart security services and walk-through duty-free shops. In October 2022, a brand new area for domestic flights had opened at the Kansai International Airport. Complete with restaurants and shops, visitors can expect to enjoy their stay until they board their flight.
