Sakai Traditional Industrial Crafts Museum
An exhibition, store and hands-on experience facility featuring the traditional industries of Sakai.
The “TAKUMI SHOP” on the 1st floor offers varied and different types of knives for not only casual users but for professional chefs. In addition, the shop sells Chusen cotton, incense, kelp, Japanese sweets, tea, and soy sauce that are from the Sakai region. The ”Sakai Knife Museum CUT” on the 2nd floor has an exhibition of the history and manufacturing process behind the knives of Sakai, with displays of knives used in various applications. What is most prominent is the “HIBANA” chandelier that was made using about 300 knives for its materials. In addition to exhibits to learn about Chusen cotton, incense, processed kelp, rugs, Japanese sweets, and the Sakai Koi banners of May, the museum also holds demonstrations as well as hands-on experiences.
