A park in Utsubohonmachi, an office district of Osaka. With a total area of 9.7 hectares, it is a long narrow park with about 800 meters east and west and about 150 meters north and south. Naniwa-suji, that cuts vertically through the center of the park divides it into Higashi-en (east park) and Nishi-en (west park). In Higashi-en are the oldest rose garden in Osaka City, 10 en-tout-cas courts and a zelkova-lined street that shows seasonal beauty. In the Nishi-en is the Utsubo Tennis Center with 16 tennis courts that hosts international competitions. During the age of Hideyoshi, this region thrived with the Zakoba fresh fish market and wholesale business of salted dried fish. Hearing the fish merchants yell out "Yasui! Yasui! (Cheap! Cheap!)," Hideyoshi commented that "Yasu (ya = arrow, su = nest) is utsubo (a quiver)," and this is said to be how this region got its name, Utsubo. Kyomachibori on the north side of the park has many fashionable cafes and general merchandise stores.
