Ai Shrine

The shrine is deeply connected to Fujiwara-no-Kamatari, an Asuka period statesman.

This entire region has been Nakatomi clan territory since the early years of Japanese history. The Nakatomi clan's ancestors are worshipped at Ai Shrine. This historic shrine, also known as Naemori Daimyojin, was mentioned in the ancient Engishiki list of shrines. One of the shrine's important works of art is a bronze mirror found in an ancient tomb mound in the region. It is believed to have come to Japan from China in the 3rd to 4th century. A festival is held every May, and mikoshi floats parade to the neighboring Dainenji Temple. The shrine is deeply connected to Fujiwara-no-Kamatari, an Asuka period statesman.
