Chihaya Nature and Astronomy Museum

Basic information
In the southeast part of Osaka Prefecture is Chihayaakasaka-mura, the only remaining mura (an administrative division equivalent to village) in the prefecture. At a height of 1,000 m on Mt. Kongo (a municipal ropeway is available), there are the vast Fumin-no-Mori Chihaya Enchi Park and its core communications facility, the Chihaya Stars and Nature Museum. The museum was designed in consideration of environmental protection, installing Eco Loop, wind power generation, and other eco-friendly facilities. The museum introduces Mt. Kongo's plants, birds, and other animals, by exhibiting related photos, videos, sounds, and other materials. A learning space equipped with computers and books is also available. A star observatory with a sliding roof is installed with a 400 mm-diameter astronomical telescope. Star watching events are held once or twice a month except in winter. The museum also provides a variety of programs to experience nature. The park facilities include a campground, cottages, and the municipal accommodation facility Konanso.
