Daimonji Temple



This Shingon Buddhist temple has a history of over 1,250 years. A new main hall was built in 2022, but the grounds are still under construction.
Founded in 771 by Prince Kaisei, the elder brother of Emperor Kanmu, the temple currently belongs to the Omuro school of Shingon Buddhism. The principal image is the Nyoirin Kannon Bodhisattva, which is kept secret. This principal image and the Four Heavenly Kings were designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan in 1990. Flowers of all seasons can be enjoyed on the approach and grounds, and in autumn it is a famous spot for viewing autumn leaves. A new main hall was completed in 2022, but the grounds and other facilities are still under construction.
