Dainenbutsuji Temple

It is the head temple of the Yuzunenbutsu sect. The Manbe Oneri, a procession of monks dressed as Bodhisattvas, is an intangible cultural asset of the city.
As the head temple of the Yuzu-Nenbutsu sect, the main hall is the largest wooden building in Osaka Prefecture. Temple treasures include the National Treasure "Koshi Zheng Zan Zan Scroll" and the Important Cultural Property "Yuzu-Nenbutsu Kanjincho." The temple is also famous for its Hyakumanben Daijukuri (Great Hyakuman-ben Rosary) ceremony, held annually on the 16th of January, May, and September. During the Manbe-oneri ceremony, held from May 1st to 5th, a procession of young children, joyful chanting of the Nembutsu, and singing and dancing patrons enter the hall. At the sound of a gong, 25 Bodhisattvas, led by gagaku music, quietly cross the Raigo Bridge. Next, the principal image of the temple, the Eleven Tendoku Nyorai (Heavenly Buddha), the head priest, and monks attending the service are carried in succession. Afterward, a Bodhisattva-dengu ceremony is held, in which Bodhisattvas offer flowers one after another, and worshippers join hands in prayer for the repose of their ancestors. This event was designated an Osaka City Intangible Folk Cultural Property in 2002.
