Domyoji Tenmangu Shrine
A famous plum blossom spot where approximately 800 plum trees of 80 different varieties bloom in full glory
It was founded as the guardian deity of the Haji clan, who built the Mozu-Furuichi Kofun Group, a World Heritage Site. It has a history of over 1,400 years. When the family name was changed from Haji to Sugawara, it became the guardian deity of the Sugawara clan, and Tenmangu Shrine was founded to enshrine Sugawara no Michizane. The plum garden, which contains 800 plum trees of about 80 varieties, beloved by Michizane, is magnificent.
