Himeshima Shrine

At the summer festival held on the third Saturday and fourth Sunday of July, ceremonies are held to pray for surviving the summer and for the elimination of epidemics.

In 1872, it was designated a local shrine. The founding date is unknown, but there are ten stone lanterns on the grounds dating back to 1648, which suggests that Akarubihime has been enshrined as the deity since at least before the Edo period. Akarubihime separated from her husband, crossed the sea, and started anew in a new land, where she taught women how to weave, sew, make pottery, and play musical instruments. This led to her being loved by many women and worshipped as the "goddess of decision-making and action." A summer festival is held on the third Saturday and fourth Sunday of July, with ceremonies to pray for surviving the summer and warding off epidemics.
