Horikoshi Shrine

It is said that Prince Shotoku built this shrine on Mt. Chausu in memory of his uncle, the 32nd Emperor Sushun, and it is one of the Seven Shrines of Shitennoji Temple.
It is said that Prince Shotoku built this shrine on Chausuyama in memory of his uncle, Emperor Sushun, the 32nd Emperor, around the same time as Shitennoji Temple was built during the reign of Empress Suiko, the 33rd Emperor of Japan. It is one of the Seven Shrines of Shitennoji Temple. From ancient times until the mid-Meiji period, a beautiful moat ran along the southern side of the temple grounds, and it is said that the name "Horikoshi" came from the fact that pilgrims crossed this moat to make pilgrimages. The shrine enshrines Prince Kubotsu, the first prince of Kumano, who once lived in Watanabe-no-tsu, Hachikenya. Though it faces the busy Tanimachi-suji Street, the grounds maintain a tranquil atmosphere thanks to trees hundreds of years old. In Osaka, there is a legend that "Horikoshi-san is a god who will grant your once-in-a-lifetime wish," and the shrine has long been beloved.
