Jakkoji Temple (Kimido Hall at Eguchi)

This temple is said to have been founded in 1622 by Koso Bikuni, the daughter of Taira no Sukemori, who became a prostitute in Eguchi after the fall of the Taira clan and later became a nun.

This temple is famous for the story of Saigyo, a Buddhist monk who was caught in a sudden rain shower while passing through the area, and asked Eguchi no Kimi for shelter, but was refused. The monk composed a poem, to which Eguchi no Kimi responded, and they ended up spending the night together enjoying the poem.
