Senri Tenjin (Kamishinden Tenjin Shrine)

The guardian deity of Senri. The main deity is Tenjin-sama (Michizane Sugawara), the god of academic achievement, and in the adjacent hall is Inari-o-kami, the god of business prosperity.
Although it is located in Senri Chuo, a sub-center of Osaka, the temple grounds are surrounded by dense trees and serve as a place of healing for the residents of Hokusetsu.
In the mid-Edo period, the central part of the Senri Hills was widely cultivated as direct territory of the shogunate, and with the opening up of the villages that accompanied this, the shrine was established as the local deity of Senri. The wooden one-ken Nagare-zukuri main hall, rebuilt in 1686, is decorated with vibrant colors, and the all-persimmon roof features a karahafu gable at the front. It has been designated an Important Tangible Cultural Property of the city. The New Year's Festival is held from January 1st to 3rd, and the shrine, located in the center of Hokusetsu, is crowded with worshippers from all over northern Osaka. There are also many cultural events, and the shrine grounds are regularly and irregularly filled with votive performances, entertainment, and video streaming.
