Kanayama Tomb

A rare gourd-shaped ancient tomb.
The Kanayama Kofun is a rare gourd-shaped tomb. It is a twin-circular tomb shaped like a gourd. It is the largest gourd-shaped tomb in Japan discovered up until 2000, and is believed to have been constructed between the 6th and 7th centuries based on the style of the sarcophagus and the grave goods. A horizontal stone chamber can be seen in the mound on the north side, where two house-shaped stone coffins are placed. The area around the tomb has been developed as a historic park and is a popular place to relax.
