Kokubunji Temple, Settsu Province (Head temple of the Kokubunji branch of the Shingon sect)



It is located in the heart of the big city, close to Osaka Station and right at the entrance to Tenjinbashisuji Rokuchome Shopping Street. It was founded 1,350 years ago and became a provincial temple during the reign of Emperor Shomu. The principal image is Yakushi Nyorai (Bhaisajyaguru Buddha).
This temple is the head temple of the Kokubunji branch of the Shingon sect of Buddhism, located in Kita-ku, Osaka City. In the past, it was also known as Nagare Kokubunji. Its mountain name is Gokokusan and its temple name is Kongoin, and it is now designated as one of four sacred sites. The temple grounds are relatively large for a temple in Osaka City. The principal image, a seated statue of Yakushi Nyorai, as well as standing statues of Kobo Daishi and Fudo Myo-o, await your visit.
