Tendai sect Kozenji

A famous Tendai Buddhist temple.
It was founded in 852 (the 2nd year of the Ninju era) by Ennin, the founder of the Buddhist sect, as a temple on the request of Emperor Montoku. Entering through the Sanmon gate, you can see the pond, pass by the various halls and proceed to the main hall at the top, where you will be astonished by the Cape Great Buddha and Taizokai Dainichi Nyorai, both former national treasures. On either side are enshrined Yakushi Nyorai and Shaka Nyorai. These three statues are currently designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. The temple has seven halls within its vast grounds and has been revered since ancient times.
