Kyuhoji Jinanimachi
"Jinanimachi" where the town layout from 470 years ago still exists
Legend has it that Prince Shotoku founded a temple called "Kyuhoji" as a place of prayer for victory in the battle against Mononobe no Moriya, and although it no longer exists, this is said to be the origin of the place name "Kyuhoji." In 1470, Rennyo Shonin of Honganji Temple preached at Kyuhoji, and later built Saishoji Temple (now Kenshoji Temple). Around 1541, Jinanimachi was born with Saishoji Temple at its center. The grid-like layout of the town remains to this day. Every year in mid-September, the "Kyuhoji Jinanimachi Lantern Festival" is held, where over 1,000 lanterns are lit.
