Tourist Attractions and Experiences

Osaka Regional Environmental Facilities Association Maishima Factory

This modern waste disposal plant has an eye-catching colorful exterior. It is open for free tours and is a place to think about environmental protection and coexistence with nature.

This waste incineration plant, which is under the jurisdiction of the Osaka City, Yao City, and Matsubara City Environmental Facilities Association, houses both a waste incineration facility and a crushing facility for bulky waste. Anyone can visit for free by making a reservation. The innovative and colorful building design, which can be recognized from afar, was created by Friedensreich Hundertwasser, a Viennese artist renowned for his environmentally friendly architecture. Plants extend from the roof, around the windows, and around the building, blending the entire structure into a lush green space. Plans are underway to turn the surrounding area into a green forest in the future, with fruit-bearing trees and a biotope pond being installed to provide habitat for birds and insects. Many people from all over the country visit to see the latest pollution prevention facilities and environmentally friendly equipment.
