It is listed among the 22 shrines in Wakae County, Kawachi Province, in the Jinmyocho (list of deities) of the Engishiki, published in 927 (5th year of Encho) during the Heian period. Since the Muromachi period, it has prospered and been revered as the god of markets. As the surrounding settlements developed during the Edo period, it came to be revered by villagers as a local deity, and a vast shrine site stretched along the right bank of the Nagase River. The shrine, an ancient shrine listed in the Engishiki, was newly constructed in 1874 (7th year of the Meiji era) and rebuilt again in 1991 (3rd year of the Heisei era). The shrine grounds also include the auxiliary shrine, Yasaka Shrine, and the subordinate shrine, Tokoyo Shrine. The main hall of the auxiliary shrine, Yasaka Shrine, has been designated a tangible cultural property of Higashiosaka City for its preservation of shrine architectural style from the mid-Edo period.
