Morofuku Tenmangu Shrine

Morofuku Tenmangu Shrine was established in this area in 1644 (Kan'ei 20) and enshrines Sugawara no Michizane as its deity.
The shrine was enshrined here in 1644 (Kan'ei 20) and enshrines Sugawara no Michizane. During the Heisei restoration, the board on the shrine's plaque, which previously read "Sugawara Shrine," was flipped over to reveal the characters "Tenmangu." The front of a box containing a hanging scroll of Sugawara no Michizane, created in 1752 (Horeki 2), also bears the inscription "Tenmangu." Following the restoration, parishioners suggested that the shrine should retain its original name, Tenmangu, and on January 1, 1999 (Heisei 11), it was renamed Morofuku Tenmangu. The carvings on the columns, gables, and wooden lintels within the main hall, designated a cultural property of Daito City, retain the Momoyama architectural style of the early Edo period (cypress bark roofing, one-bay shrine, traditional Japanese style). The Heisei restoration restored the shrine's vibrant colors. The most lively event of the year is the autumn festival in October. It is a village-wide festival with stalls lined up and large and small danjiri floats pulled. Also, within the precincts is enshrined the tooth god, who is said to be effective in treating toothache.
