The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka

A collection of 5,691 oriental ceramics, including the “Ataka Collection.

” Out of them, 2 are recognized as national treasures, and 13 are important cultural artifacts.

*The Museum of Oriental Ceramics, Osaka will be closed indefinitely from February 7, 2022 due to construction to expand the entrance. The reopening is scheduled for spring 2024. Located on the corner of Nakanoshima Park, this museum was established in November 1982 by Osaka city to commemorate the donation of the world-famous “Ataka Collection” by the 21 companies under the Sumitomo Group. Later, Dr. Rhee Byung-Chang, a Korean resident in Japan, donated a large collection of Korean and Chinese ceramics, and the museum continues on to this day. 2 pieces, the Yuteki Tenmoku stoneware with "oil spots" and iridescent luster on tenmoku glaze and Bottle celadon with iron brown spots are recognized national treasures, as well as 13 other pieces including the blue-and-white porcelain with design of fish and water plants in a lotus pond are important cultural properties. In total, there are 5,691 pieces in the collection, making the museum one of the largest Oriental Ceramics collection in the world. At the exhibition room that uses natural light, visitors will be able to view the beautiful ceramics wrapped in the soft and gentle sunlight. In addition to the collection exhibits, the museum holds various special exhibitions.
