Nansoan Kannonji Temple

This is the place where Masashige Kusunoki's wife, Hisako, prayed for the souls of her family and retainers.
In autumn, the magnificent autumn leaves that cover the temple captivate visitors.

This is the place where Hisako, wife of Kusunoki Masashige and mother of Masatsura, became a nun and prayed for the souls of her husband and son after their deaths in battle. It is said that Hisako took the name "Haikyouni" and built Nanpian. The Kannon Hall, built by Masatsura, was also located here, and after Haikyouni's death, his younger brother, Masayoshi, renamed it "Kannonji" and made it the family temple. Both Kannonji and Nanpian were later destroyed by fire during the war, but Nanpian was rebuilt in 1917, followed by Kannonji. This area was also Haikyouni's hometown, and the stone stupa on the grounds is said to be her grave. The area offers a variety of seasonal views, from the fresh greenery of spring to the thundering of cicadas in summer, but is especially famous for its autumn foliage. It is visited by many history buffs and people who remember Lord Kusunoki.
