Nozaki Kannon (Jigenji Temple)

The closest temple to Osaka for "Nozaki Mairi" (visiting Nozaki Shrine) where you can practice Zen meditation and sutra copying

This Soto Zen temple enshrines the Eleven-Headed Kannon Bodhisattva (mid-Heian period), as its principal image. Founded by Gyoki Bodhisattva, it has long been a place of worship for the people of Osaka. The principal image is carved from a single piece of sandalwood, stands approximately 130cm tall, and stands on a pedestal surrounded by a single dragon. It has also appeared on the stage of joruri, kabuki, and rakugo, and became widely known nationwide through the hit song "Nozaki Kouta" by Tokairin Taro in the early Showa period. The gate is always open, allowing anyone to visit the Kannon statue. Located at the foot of the mountains east of the Osaka Plain, it offers a panoramic view of the city.
