Osaka City Abeno Life Safety Learning Center
This facility lets visitors acquire disaster prevention knowledge and skills through comprehensive, hands-on experiences. In Japan, the possibility of a massive earthquake is always present, so why not come learn about what to do during disasters?
This facility features two zones, the Disaster Prevention Learning Zone and the Earthquake and Disaster Experience Zone. In the first zone, visitors can look up information about disasters and disaster prevention, drawing from the facility’s rich database. In the second zone, visitors will be presented with what to do during an earthquake or other disaster in an easy-to-understand format, experiencing first-hand the steps taken for evacuation in an earthquake-collapsed section of town. Two exhibitions in particular leave a vivid impression on participants: The Virtual Earthquake Corner simulates the experience of a JMA Shindo 7 earthquake modeled after the Kobe earthquake, and the Fire Extinguisher Corner lets participants see what it’s like to fight a fire in a two-story home. There are four different tour courses available, with guidance available if you reserve in advance.
