Nishinomaru Garden of Osaka Castle

A lush garden overlooking the castle tower across the moat. In spring, 300 cherry trees bloom in full force, attracting many visitors.
In 1931, Osaka Castle Museum was rebuilt with donations of approximately 1.5 million yen (equivalent to approximately 75 billion yen today) from local residents. Osaka Castle Park, which spreads out around the main tower, is home to 13 Important Cultural Properties, including the Otemon Gate, Sengan Yagura (Sengan Turret), and Enshozo (Sword Stork), as well as plum groves and the Nishinomaru Garden. Said to be the former residence of Toyotomi Hideyoshi's wife, Kita no Mandokoro, Nishinomaru Garden opened in 1965 as a 6.5-hectare lawn garden. Surrounded by trees, it offers beautiful views of the main tower and the stone walls of the moat. In spring, approximately 300 cherry trees, primarily Somei Yoshino, bloom in full force, making it a famous cherry blossom viewing spot. Night cherry blossom viewing events are also held during the blooming season, attracting large crowds. The northeast corner of Nishinomaru Garden is home to the Hoshoan teahouse, donated by Konosuke Matsushita in 1969.
