The Osaka Shiki Theatre, the first Kansai-based theatre for the Shiki Theatre Company, opened in November 2004 inside Herbis ENT in Nishi-Umeda, Osaka. With a narrow entrance and a high Western-style structure, it is possible to recreate productions created in various overseas theatres. The theatre seats approximately 1,200, and the second-floor seating extends very close to the stage, allowing the audience to feel one with the stage. Shiki Theatre Company was formed in 1953, and in 1983 it had its first long-running production, "Cats," which was a huge success, and has now grown into Japan's largest theatre company with 600 actors.
