Ryukanjo (Flowing Candlelight) and Suijinsai (Water God Festival) - Bon Festival Segaki Ceremony - Ancestor Memorial Service in the Main Hall and on the Grounds
In the first year of the Taika era (645), the Indian hermit Hodo built a hermitage here, marking the first time Buddhism was introduced to Japan. It is a training center for Buddhism, Confucianism, and Taoism, and is said to be Japan's oldest sacred site for interring bones and a temple where Shinto and Buddhism are syncretized. It is a sacred site for worshippers of Tenjin, Jizo, Kannon, Kobo Daishi, and the dragon god, and pilgrimages to the three Kannon deities of Mount Denpo, Mount Koya, and Mount Maya began in the Heian period.
