Sairinji Temple

This temple stands in the old town.
Sairinji Temple is said to have originated when Dr. Wani, a scholar from Baekje who came to Japan during the late Ojin era and became a naturalized Buddhist. His descendants, the Bun clan of Kawachi, worked to develop culture, and during the reign of Emperor Kinmei, they turned part of their home into a temple. The megalith within the temple grounds is the central foundation of a five-story pagoda, a rare type of structure in Buddhist archaeology, and the tower base, weighing approximately 7,500 kan (28 tons), is one of the largest in the Asuka period.
