Sengoji Temple

Sengoji Temple and the Okabe Family Graves
This is the family temple of the Okabe clan, lords of Kishiwada Castle in Izumi Province. When the first lord of Kishiwada Castle, Okabe Mino no Kami Yoshikatsu, grew old, he built a villa on this site as his retirement residence, but in his will he was buried here and his residence was converted into a temple, which would become the family temple of the Okabe clan for generations to come. This was in 1668 (Kanbun 8). Later, the temple came to be called Senkoji, taking the two characters from Lord Nobukatsu's posthumous name, "Senkoinden Tetsugai Kaken Daikoji."
